Creb Binding Protein (CBP) plays an important role in transcription by recognising and promoting the acetylation of histones to allow for binding of transcription factors and machinery.\n\nCBP recognises histone modifications such as acetylated lysines. It has been found that CBP preferentially binds to Histone 3 with acetylated lysine 56 (H3K56ac). This occurs through a variety of structural and chemical features of H3K56ac and CBP bromodomain. Some of these key features will be explored through exploring Xu, et al. (2017) findings and CBP structure (PDB ID 5GH9).
