This pack contains 120 real-world heightmaps from the Grand Canyon, USA, so if you are planning to recreate a landscape from the Grand Canyon or you simply need a very realistic canyon in your game, this pack is exactly what you need. The heightmaps are created from Digital Elevation Models (DEM) with 1 meter precision and 10 meters precision and you will be able to recreate perfect copies of the Grand Canyon terrain, with the following dimensions: 16 square km, 64 square km, 400 square km and for those who really need huge landscapes, there are a few heightmaps which will help you recreate 6400 square km landscapes from the Grand Canyon. The pack also contains 4 demo levels, one for each dimension.
Step By Step instructions of how to integrate the heightmaps into your level:
1. Install the FREE plugins: "ILIAD"
2. Select in the Content Browser the PNG heightmap you want to use in your project as a landscape
3. Right click on the selected PNG texture (heightmap) and select Asset Actions - Export
4. Save the PNG heightmap to your hard disk (keep the same PNG format)
5. Open the map you want to import the heightmap into and select Landscape Mode
6. Choose option Import from file and select the previously exported PNG file
7. In order to keep the exact proportions of the real landscape, in the name of every heightmap you can find the X, Y and Z scales for that heightmap. For example, in the filename T_Grand_Canyon_8_XY_100_Z_81 , the X and Y scale is 100 and Z scale is 81. So type the correct XYZ scales and then press Import to import the heightmap into your level.
8. Done! In a few seconds you should see the landscape...
Important: Although the pack contains huge portions of the Grand Canyon, it does not contain the entire Grand Canyon. Also, the heightmaps are not seamless, which means that if you try to combine 2 or more heightmaps into the same map, the final landscape/heightmap will have seams.
