DMXlights enables DMX control of standard Unreal Engine lights. Users with a background in lighting design or lighting programming may appreciate the ability to control the parameters of these lights using the console of their choice.
The asset has DMX blueprints for five standard UE lights: directional, point, spot, rect, and sky light. The sixth blueprint enables DMX control of the location, rotation, and scale of the static mesh. Dynamic material can be applied to the static mesh, and the color and brightness of the material can also be DMX controlled.
All GDTF files have three modes: Dim, for controlling the intensity of the light; DimRGB, for controlling both the intensity and color of the light, and Extended, for controlling additional parameters such as color temperature, cone angles, attenuation radius, pan, tilt, etc. For each mode, the user can choose between an 8-bit version to minimise channel numbers or 16 bit version for greater precision. That makes a total of six modes per fixture.
GDTF files are tested with the MagicQ console. Profile files for grandMA 2 and dot 2 consoles are also tested and provided.
DMX plugin must be enabled. A basic understanding of DMXplugin settings and fixture patching is necessary for using this asset.
IMPORTANT: Since UE 5.1, DMX is active in the editor before playing the level, which can sometimes be inconvenient. As a solution, a UseDMX switch is added in the details panel of each DMXlight, and it is on by default. You can turn it off if you need to temporarily disable DMX.
